WHEN IS IT BEST TO TRAVEL TO ZIMBABWE
Zimbabwe enjoys a wonderfully moderate sub-tropical climate, and as a result, you can travel to the country all year round. The lower lying regions of the Limpopo and Zambezi are malaria areas, with the peak season running from October to March, and we would advise you to consult your local travel clinic regarding malaria prevention.
Zimbabwes schools have three terms, so peak holiday times are mid December to mid January, April and August. As Zimbabwe regains its popularity as a regional destination, it will be advisable to consider South African school terms, which are typically at the end of the year, over Easter, in mid July and late September.
Wildlife viewing is best in at the end of the dry winter (September/October), as animals tend to congregate around water sources, and the vegetation has died back, improving visibility. This is when Mana Pools comes alive with animals and is hugely popular. A white water rafting adventure is also at its best ahead of the rainy season, before the river gets too full. The rafting operations often close during the wet months. For the fishing enthusiasts, the local rule of thumb is to avoid any months which lack an r ~ thankfully there are only 4 of these. However, on a recent trip in August, the Mud Hut Tribe managed to help a client land a 3.7kg tiger fish
on the clients second day of fishing
ever!!
The Eastern Highlands can be enjoyed any time of the year, but given their elevation, in the winter months of May to August, the weather can be particularly cold, misty and frosty in the early mornings. Open wood fires help to warm houses and hearts, but the cooler temperatures should not be under-estimated, particularly if you are hiking.
