Cool and Dry (from May to August). Temperatures average between 8*C and 25*C, seldom cooler than 15*C during the day. At this time of year, the land is particularly prone to bush fires, often natural fires but sometimes lit by farmers and villages to clear the land for replanting. A pleasant time to visit, but not the best for spotting the Big 5 as the vegetation is thick and lush.

Hot (from September to November) but pleasant. October is the hottest month, but the dry heat is more manageable than the humidity at other times of the year. This is also a much better time for game viewing as the flora is sparse and the rains have not yet begun. At this time of year, consider heading to the remote Liuwa plains to watch the Wildebeest migration from Angola.

Wet (from December to April) and humid. This is not the hottest period of the year, but with heavy thunderstorms a regular feature in the late afternoon and evenings, it can be quite humid. The thunderstorms tend to cool things down and may give spectacular natural lightning displays to rival any fireworks.
