Walking safaris are unpleasant in the heat and the wet, and spotting game through dense bush might be too much of a challenge, so the cool dry season from May to August is the best time for these.

Lake Kariba’s weather is mostly sunny and fine. It can get hot and wet in mid summer (December and January), but even mid winter days are warm and the nights are balmy.

The Victoria Falls (or Mosi-oa-Tunya) can be visited year round. Around April and May, the falls are spectacular after the rains, but the spray and mist is so thick that it is difficult to see the full breadth and scale of the torrent of water. In the drier months, visibility is far better, and the rafting is at its adrenaline fuelled best as the river churns amongst the rocks and gullies below the falls.

For fishermen, the best time to set off for a bush camp or Lake Kariba is in August and September. And for those interested in feathered creatures, birdlife is more proficient in the summer (northern hemisphere winter) when the migratory birds return.
