The north-east of South Africa, the game reserve heartland, experiences warm, humid summers with occasional afternoon thundershowers. Winters in the region are characterised by clear skies, and sub-zero temperatures at night. The eastern and south-eastern coast has similar weather to the north east, but considerably warmer, especially in the summer. You can comfortably swim in the sea off the Natal coast in the height of winter.

The Drakensberg Mountains near Lesotho are often capped by snow in the winter, so please consider this in your plans as cold toes are never pleasant!
