Weatherwise, the best time to travel to Malawi is in the dry season, which lasts from late April to October. Temperatures are less severe at the top end, but around June and July there is the possibility of frost on the highlands.

If you're coming to see wildlife, make it late in the dry season (September/October), when animals converge at water holes. But be aware that the heat can be unpleasant towards October/November, especially in the lowlands. The early 'dry' season is the best time for birdwatching; but it may also be exceedingly hot, exceptionally wet or both. For hiking and trekking adventures, June and July days are ideal, but be aware if you are camping that it can get quite cold in the evening - especially in the higher lying areas.

Travelling to the lake at anytime of the year is superb - if it is too hot, you have the lake to cool you down, and any short, intense thundershowers shouldn’t consume too many hours of sunshine.
