WHAT TO DO IN MALAWI
Most of the activities of Malawi involve the tideless Lake of Stars, Lake Malawi. Here you can spend time reading in a hammock or simply float along on a small boat or inflatable lilo. For the more active, fill your days with all sorts of adventure activities, including freshwater diving and snorkelling in the most diverse lake in the world in terms of fish species, kayak safaris, and sailing in a traditional dhow, or on a more luxurious yacht.
For those who want to incorporate some time on terra firma, you can hike and trek across varied landscapes, including mountains, plateaus and even along the lake shore. Bicycles dominate the roads, Malawis transport of choice, and as a result, there are some fantastic off-road bicycle safaris on offer.
We challenge you to go to Malawi and not to return with at least one wooden carvin! Malawians are skilled at carving, weaving, painting and drum-making, producing artwork that is not only exceptional quality and uniquely Malawian but very affordable. With almost every major road junction outside cities hosting a craft market, you wont miss out on the chance to get your own uniquely Malawian artefact.
Spend some time on the forgotten island retreats of Likoma and Chizimulu.
Chill, relax or go boating at Monkey Bay or Cape Maclear.
Embrace the opportunity to go freshwater diving and snorkelling in the worlds most diverse lake.
Take a kayak safari to the magical Mumbo Island .
Browse the endless markets of fantastic carvings, artwork and drums.
Trek up the spectacular and misty Mount Mulanje.
River safaris watching crocs, hippos and elephants in Liwonde.
Hike across the Nyika plateau through herds of wildebeest and zebra.
Travel up the length of Lake Malawi on the legendary old steamer, the Illala.
PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR REGARDING MALARIA, BILHARZIA AND OTHER POTENTIAL DISEASES BEFORE TRAVELLING TO MALAWI
