Walk through the fascinating Luangwa Valley and enjoy Zambiaa fantastic wildlife and scenery. Dont worry about where you are going to sleep that night, as your safari camp will be moved to meet you at the end of each day.
The Luangwa Valley is one of the few truly unspoilt wilderness areas and one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa. Ox bow lakes, woodlands and the Acacia studded valley plains host huge concentrations of game - including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, endemic Thornicroft giraffe, hippo and over 400 species of birds.
Our walks are led by an experienced naturalist and accompanied by an armed game scout. Mobile camps are moved and set up for you, with well-equipped walk-in tents, under tree-showers and, the height of luxury in the bush - a long drop toilet with a wooden throne!
DAY 1: NKWALI CAMP
You will be met at the nearby Mfuwe International Airport and driven to your first camp through colourful local villages, farmlands and bush which will take about an hour. The camp overlooks the South Luangwa National Park and is ideally situated for the start of your Zambia tour.
All rooms have open air bathrooms, all overlook the river. You will be served lunch or tea on arrival, with time to relax before a late afternoon / evening game drive.
DAY 2: NKWALI CAMP
At dawn, after breakfast of hot-coal cooked porridge and toast around the campfire, depart for the park, entering the park by boat or pontoon for your morning walk or drive.
A mid morning tea break will refresh you and around midday you will return to the Safari camp for lunch. Cool off in the swimming pool or indulge in a siesta. Following afternoon tea, head out an evening game drive to experience Africa by night.
DAY 3: MOBILE CAMP
After an early breakfast, you will head north to the Mupamadzi River along a bush road, through remote parts of the South Luangwa National Park, before starting your walk.
You should arrive in your new camp for lunch around mid day. Enjoy a relaxing siesta before tea and a walk around the camp in the afternoon to return for sundowners and dinner under the stars!
DAY 4: MOBILE CAMP 1
Welcome the sunrise with an early morning walk. From ants to elephants, birds nests to lion spoor, you will learn many facets of the African bush. While you are walking, the mobile camp will be packed up and moved to Camp 2 where a delicious lunch will be waiting for you. Enjoy further memorable game walks in the afternoon after a revitalising nap.
DAY 5 AND 6: MOBILE CAMP 2
Spend the whole day exploring the surrounding area on foot, and then on the second day you leave Camp 2 behind, and walk further down the Mupamadzi River which is a major tributary of the Luangwa. While you do this, camp will be set up at a new location, Camp 3.
DAY 7: MOBILE CAMP 3
Spend the day exploring the surrounding area on foot, and return to sleep in the same campsite.
DAY 8: TENA TENA CAMP
After an early breakfast, a 3 4 hour drive through the Luangwa National Park will take you to the Luangwa River crossing point opposite Tena Tena. Here, the staff will accompany you on your boat transfer across the river and the scenic 20 minute drive to Tena Tena camp.
Located on a stunning sweeping bend of the Luangwa River, the small and remote camp sits in a grove of mahogany trees which shade the large custom-made tents. On arrival lunch will be served followed by a well deserved siesta before a late afternoon game drive. Most meals are taken under the shade of a huge Mahogany tree in the centre of the camp. From the thatched dining room and bar, guests can watch elephants, hippo and antelope on the riverbank.
DAY 9: TENA TENA CAMP
Spend the morning at the spectacular Buca Buca lagoon, quietly sitting watching game feed and drink. Or you can head out to explore the Nsefu Sector of the National Park with an all-day picnic, driving to the salt pans, which is a truly exceptional day safari. There is also the option of visiting Kawaza village where you can meet local people and experience Zambian village life.
DAY 10: DEPARTURE DAY
At the end of your stay, you are transferred you back to the Mfuwe International Airport for your flight home or to another Mud Hut destination.
