IMMERSION SOUTH AFRICA
Through our commitment to the sustainable development of Africa, we have teamed up with Immersion South Africa who give the opportunity for volunteers willing to get involved with community development and to immerse themselves in the rich culture and life that is the Transkei, South East South Africa.
"Immersion SA is about Community, Connection, Change and our mission is to CLICk - we want to connect people through Cultural and Language Immersion in Communities.
To CLICk means to relate to, to connect with or to realize. We believe that through a cultural and language experience, and an immersion in a community, people from all worlds can relate and connect with one another. The connection is mutually beneficial and develops into a sustainable relationship, through which all people are encouraged to realize truths about themselves and the world and by doing so grow as people and agents of change.
Immersion SA facilitates an experience with the amaXhosa people of South Africa. The mother tongue of the amaXhosa people is isiXhosa and is affectionately known as the click language, as it borrows its clicks from the Khoisan language.
The Immersion SA experience will get you to CLICk with community, connections and culture and get you to CLICk with the language!"
Immersion SA is located in Tshani Village on the Wild Coast of South Africa, in an area formerly known under the apartheid government as the Kingdom of Transkei. This area now forms part of the Eastern Cape province.
Volunteers are initially hosted by a Xhosa family in their home for two nights. During this time they have the opportunity to live like a local and learn more about the village, the community and the culture.
They will experience cultural and language orientation before starting their projects which include adult education, agriculture and livestock, conservation, micro-finance, theatre and local development.
Its a thoroughly worth-wile cause and an enriching experience that will change your life.
Please contact the Mud Hut Tribe for more information on this fantastic project.
